At JT Sporthorses, our mission is built on horsemanship, integrity, and lasting partnerships. Whether you are searching for your next show ring partner or looking for elite development for your equine athlete, our team in South Carolina is here to guide your journey.
We believe complete transparency is essential in every equestrian partnership. Explore our most frequent questions regarding pre-purchase exams, trial rides, shipping, and training schedules.
Can I come meet and ride a horse?
Absolutely. We encourage serious prospective buyers to meet the horse in person whenever possible. Depending on the horse and circumstances, rides may be arranged at home or another suitable facility.
Our priority is creating a safe and comfortable environment where you can get to know the horse and determine whether the partnership feels right.
Are trial rides available?
Trial periods may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Every horse and situation is different, so trial arrangements are discussed individually and require appropriate contracts, insurance, and transportation arrangements when applicable.
We want buyers to feel confident in their decision while also protecting the horse throughout the process.
Do you allow pre-purchase examinations?
Yes. We strongly encourage prospective buyers to have a pre-purchase examination performed by a veterinarian of their choice.
Buyers are welcome to select their own veterinarian, and we believe an independent examination is an important part of making an informed purchasing decision. Additional diagnostics, including imaging, may also be arranged at the buyer’s discretion.
Will you provide veterinary and farrier records?
We believe buyers should have as much relevant information as reasonably available before making a decision. Available veterinary, dental, farrier, and other pertinent records can be discussed and provided when appropriate.
We will always disclose known health, soundness, behavioral, and training information as honestly and accurately as possible.
Do you provide videos?
Yes. We are happy to provide current videos whenever available. Depending on the horse, videos may include flatwork, jumping, transitions, different riding levels, schooling environments, or other situations that help demonstrate the horse’s abilities and temperament.
If there is something specific you would like to see, please ask. We would rather answer questions openly than leave important details to guesswork.
What happens if I am unable to visit in person?
We understand that purchasing a horse often involves significant distance. When an in-person visit is not possible, we can provide additional videos, discuss the horse in detail, and work with your trainer or another trusted professional whenever possible.
We encourage buyers purchasing from a distance to have an independent professional evaluate the horse before completing a purchase.
Do you arrange shipping?
Shipping can be coordinated with reputable professional transporters. Transportation arrangements, costs, timing, and insurance are discussed with the buyer before the horse leaves our care.
We understand that getting a horse safely to its new home is just as important as finding the right horse.
Who pays for transportation?
Unless otherwise agreed upon in writing, transportation costs are the responsibility of the buyer. We are happy to help coordinate transportation and provide information needed by the shipper.
How are training schedules determined?
Training programs are individualized for each horse. We consider the horse’s age, experience, fitness, temperament, goals, and current level of development when determining a training schedule.
Our goal is consistent, thoughtful progress rather than rushing a horse through a program simply to meet a deadline.
What type of homes are you looking for?
We want every horse to go to a home where they will be appreciated, appropriately managed, and given the opportunity to continue developing.
The “perfect” home looks different for every horse. Some may be suited for a competitive show home, while others may thrive in a more relaxed program. We focus on finding the right match between horse, rider, goals, and lifestyle.
Do you sell horses to junior riders?
Yes, when the horse is appropriate for the individual rider. We carefully consider the rider’s experience, confidence, goals, and support system when discussing a potential match.
For junior riders, we encourage parents, trainers, and other appropriate professionals to be involved in the decision-making process.
Do you offer leases?
Lease opportunities may be available for select horses and are considered individually. Any lease arrangement will include a written agreement outlining responsibilities, care, insurance, duration, and other applicable terms.
What if I have a specific type of horse in mind?
Tell us what you are looking for. We are happy to discuss your goals and may be able to help locate a horse that fits your program, even if the right horse is not currently listed.
We believe finding the right horse is more important than simply making a sale.
Are your horses represented accurately?
Yes. Honest representation is one of our core principles. We strive to provide accurate information about each horse’s age, experience, training, temperament, history, strengths, and limitations.
No horse is perfect, and we believe buyers deserve to know both the qualities that make a horse special and the areas where they may need continued development.
What happens after I purchase a horse?
Our relationship does not have to end when the sale is complete. We are always happy to stay in touch and hear how a horse is settling into their new home.
We genuinely care about where our horses go and love receiving updates, photos, and show results from their new partnerships.
What is your approach to matching horse and rider?
We look beyond a horse’s price, color, pedigree, or current accomplishments. We consider the entire partnership: the rider’s experience, goals, personality, confidence, program, and long-term plans alongside the horse’s temperament, training, and potential.
The goal isn’t simply to sell a horse. It is to create a partnership that lasts.
